Cementing Your Relationships

February 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Surprising no-one, Minister Derrick Burgess announced yesterday in the House that the cement company at Dockyard would not be required, at least for now, to relocate the contentious silos.

You may recall that this was the key requirement used by Government to force the sale of the Bermuda Cement Company (BCC), along with a requirement that they return the new silos to Government after 21 years and sell 20% of the company to the public.

It later transpired that a close ally of the Premier was the primary buyer for BCC, although Minister Burgess also revealed yesterday that WEDCo’s tenant was a new (apparently as of yet unincorporated) company called Maxcem.

BCC shareholder Jim Butterfield is apparently reviewing his legal options. The rest of us are just shaking our heads.
