In public, Mayor Madeiros said he would protect the Bermuda Society of the Arts’ place in the City Hall & Arts Centre.
In private, he voted to evict them.
And someone leaked the minutes. That’s embarrassing. But what’s more important: betraying the trust of the Corporation or betraying the trust of the citizens and patrons of Hamilton?
“I am very disappointed that minutes were leaked. I think there are some things in the minutes that are sensitive issues. I’m really upset that somebody betrayed the trust of the Corporation of Hamilton and has gone to the press.”
Needless to say this imbroglio reinforces the need to open up meetings of the city council aka the Corporation of Hamilton. Do it before your critics in Government force your hand.
