The driving “points” system is intended to some teeth to traffic enforcement.

But the Bermuda Sun has revealed that the system is not particularly effective as systems have not been created to track the demerits.

And today, the Sun reveals that the Courts are not following the demerit tables anyway.

The idea of points systems is to reduce the burden on the Courts by making penalties for some offenses automatic.  They are also intended to add some consistency in punishment, particularly when multiple offenses occur over a period.  Arguably neither of those goals have been met.  For now, they’ve just piled on more complexity and bureaucracy.

In other words: bad management that’s all promise, no delivery.
