So, we’ve been holding our breath for the Speaker Stanley Lowe to explain his abandonment of parliamentary tradition and impartiality by quashing legitimate questions posed in the House of Assembly. This comes in the same week that the Speaker supported Dr. Brown’s pre-emptive move to “shut down” debate on another issue in the House.
The Speaker has so far refused to identify who wrote the media release that was issued (unusually) by the Cabinet Office earlier this week. He had promised to do so in the House today.
Well not quite. Here is his statement (from the floor of the House, not from Dr. Brown’s spin doctors):
“The Leader of the Opposition knows what it is all about. At this stage it’s a private matter.”
Great. WTF does that mean?
No matter that undermines the institution and duties of Parliament can be held private.
Oh right, this Government is committed to public access to bullshit.
