Well, Parliament met on Friday, just long enough for Dr. Brown to get in a huff and to shut down debate because the Opposition was asking too many questions.
Well, actually not quite. You see, the MPs spent an hour and half – most of the morning session – giving their condolences and congratulations to constituents.
Given the infrequency of our Parliamentary sessions, this is a ridiculous waste of time. The practice is abused to reduce the time available to substantive debate.
The “congrats and obits” should be submitted on paper, or read into the Parliamentary record outside of actual session, as in the case of many other legislatures.
I am amazed that debate was also halted on Friday, so that an American TV crew could film Dr. Brown. Glad that we have our priorities straight.
The Premier was encouraged by the Speaker to stand and act like he was doing something, which drew laughter from both sides.
Wonder how much that is costing us? With Government’s huge expenditure on its CITV propaganda channel, all sessions of the House and Senate should be aired unabridged.
