Eternal Optimist

November 21st, 2008 · No Comments · Tourism

The Premier is in Florida trying to drum up hotel investors.  Genuinely, I wish him luck.  His bio on the conference programme shows his sense of eternal optimism:

… In July of 2004 following a Cabinet shuffle, Dr. Brown assumed the single Portfolio of The Ministry of Tourism and Transport, when the two Ministries were combined. Determined to capitalize on the national synergy that the new Ministry presented, Premier Brown set a series of core goals for tourism’s recovery in Bermuda and since January of 2005 visitor arrivals have continued to increase such that Bermuda’s tourism industry is now revived

Hmm, connection to reality, anyone?  The truth is that Bermuda’s tourism business is devastated.  Can anyone articulate what the core goals of the Ministry of Tourism are these days, other than clinging on to their jobs?

Maybe the Premier’s resume writers can tackle the global financial crisis next.
