It must be a delight to be a defense lawyer in Bermuda.
A Government ferry pilot was given a simple fine after running his ferry into the dock and being found two and a half times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
His lawyer’s defense: his client was a “good Christian man” who did not know the 16.5% by volume (33 proof) fortified wine he was drinking was alcoholic. “He thought it was an energy drink that would give him a pep.”
Note that, during the arrest, six empty bottles of the stuff were found. That’s quite some pep.
The first step is honesty.
