Much has been written about the PLP’s perception that their Party and Government are one and the same.
This elision drives the massive political interference in the civil service that has been observed in Bermuda in recent years … at the Hospital … in Education … in Tourism … the list goes on and on.
The BPSU (Bermuda Public Services Union) is in an uncomfortable spot finding that its philosophical ally, the PLP, is abusing its privilege by interfering in the routine functioning of government as well as in the staffing of the “impartial” civil service.
The news today has yet another example that a senior member of the civil service was allegedly shunted aside to accommodate a friend of the Party leadership.
This is wrong. Bermuda is not a fiefdom.
It’s time for us to stop compromising and forgiving certain PLP leaders for every transgression - these shortcuts and “grace-and-favours” cost all of us too much in money, productivity, reputation, and quality of life.
