Bermuda First

September 4th, 2009 · No Comments · Bermuda Politics

The Bermuda First report was initially due in May.  Then June.  Then July.  Then August.  Then September.  Then … so what’s up guys?

You may recall that Bermuda First is a privately funded effort to brainstorm strategies for Bermuda’s future.

The cynic in me says that this is a frank admission that our political class have no clue what to do – beyond the daily cut and thrust of partisan politics – in terms of managing Bermuda’s economy.  The optimist in me says that this is the best thing that can happen to Bermuda, pulling both sides of our political divide together, and bringing our business community (who are largely excluded from political dialogue) to the table.

If I were a guessing man, I’d say that McKinsey’s findings are eye-popping enough that there is some horse trading going on in the background to make it politically acceptable.

McKinsey doesn’t come cheap – let’s hope this is not a continuation of Bermuda’s addiction to hiring top dollar consultants and then never reading the reports.

I’d prefer they just release the damn thing.
