Senator Burch says that he supports transparency, but not the Royal Gazette’s sunshine week or campaign.
“I don’t need no legislation to make me truthful and I don’t think this Government needs legislation. I am offended by a campaign that is considered in our right to know.”
With all due respect, Senator, stop being such a control freak. The public has a right to be suspicious about the Government’s track record of withholding or manipulating information – both within the PLP’s tenure and before.
It is not only the Royal Gazette which is agitating for the PLP to deliver upon its long-standing promise to deliver freedom of information laws; the calls have been coming from all sectors of our community. This is the logical continuation of the process begun with the formation of the Ombusdman’s office.
It is not about us versus you. It is about ensuring that this massive bear of a public sector, which daily gains more influence over our private lives, is less secretive and more responsive to our needs.
