Life’s too short to watch CITV when there’s Spongebob and that pink-haired church lady on other channels. My position may change when they start providing complete live coverage of the House and Senate.
But I doubt it: a Government station that produces programmes promoting Government policies is a propaganda vehicle. Period. The fact that the spin is wrapped in soft features is of little consequence.
I am told that Government has started to run its employment ads on CITV, and this raises some interesting questions:
- Do you really want to hire someone who’s watching CITV as their primary source of important information? I mean really?
- If Government can use CITV to fulfill its Immigration obligations to advertise job listings, does this mean other local companies may do the same? Want to bring in some new expats? Forget the newspapers - just run some overnight job ads on AM 1450 Gold and you’re off to the races!
