Vexed Bermoothes

There has been a terrible murder of a child in Bermuda. I am speechless. Or rather I am so sad for the family and so angry at the killer and so hopeful the authorities gain a just conviction that I cannot untangle the words.

I am told that one of the local TV stations broadcast footage of the body. This is just wrong.

The Royal Gazette recently published a code of practice which states:

In cases involving personal grief or shock, enquiries and approaches must be made with sympathy and discretion and publication handled sensitively.

I’d encourage the media outlets to sit down together to make a common code and to make it stick. Do it together before someone else shoves one down your throats.
