Alex Scott revealed to the Royal Gazette today that the PLP caucus is due to discuss Public Access to Information in the near future.
“Without going into details, it has been officially put before us,” he said. “It probably doesn’t do harm for me to say it is scheduled for discussion.”
I am not sure why we are supposed to be happy that this is going before the PLP caucus.
At this stage, PATI is an initiative of the Bermuda Government, not the PLP caucus. Its birth must be transparent and bipartisan to succeed. It must be driven by public consultation and the feedback of international best practice, not the direction of political insiders.
I am told that members of the Civil Service have been tasked to work on PATI subjects for nearly 8 years already. Several generations of government leaders have committed to it. And we’re supposed to be relieved that its going back to the PLP caucus?!
