Blustery Opinions From Bermuda

The media is reporting that the 2009 Bermuda Music Festival cost Government about $2 million to stage, and raised about $1 million in revenue.

Government claims the event attracted 383 tourists.  I think that’s being exceptionally generous.

It also sounds like all the costs are not in; the radio news is reporting that the Promoter has yet to bill all their costs.  I also wonder how much of the cost has been attributed to the Tattoo held the week before.

The Bermuda Music Festival is a complete failure as a tourism promotion.    In fact, it’s scandalous.

Pull the plug or let a promoter stage it on their own dime.

The so-called Love Festival has also been a really dubious tourism performer in past years.  I am surprised that the Dr. and friends will be feeling the love again in 2010.

With the continuing bad decisions regarding tourism promotion, it’s time for someone else to take operational control over the fleecing.
