Early this summer, there was much speculation that Dr. Brown would call a snap election. My friend the taxi driver said “Not possible; he’ll give us our fare increase right before he calls it to soothe all the bad blood the drivers have against him”.
Today, right after the PLP announced an election was imminent, Dr. Brown rolled out a 10.5% increase to taxi fares. I suppose we can expect lots of Government promises and largesse in the next few weeks in an attempt to boost the PLP’s fortunes.
This is Bermuda, everybody gets a pony!
This reminds me of an old political joke that is pertinent to attendees of the PLP delegates conference.
Worried that their son was too optimistic, the parents of a little boy took him to a psychiatrist. Trying to dampen the boy’s spirits, the psychiatrist showed him into a room piled high with nothing but horse manure. Yet instead of displaying distaste, the little boy clambered to the top of the pile, dropped to all fours, and began digging.
“What do you think you’re doing?” the psychiatrist asked.
“With all this manure,” the little boy replied, “there must be a pony in here somewhere.”
