How can it happen that a man is shot to death in one of Bermuda’s most densely populated neighborhoods, less than half a mile from Police Headquarters, and the Police are not notified until 5 hours later? WTincredibleF!
It’s mindboggling. People subsequently admit having heard shots. Why did no-one do anything?
These crimes are being committed by a small group – a handful among probably only a few dozen potentially violent gang members. But a far larger group are complicit – family, girlfriends, and neighbours – who know what’s going on but do nothing. Is it fear, omerta, or economic dependency?
And don’t get all whiney when the Police finally do clamp down. Authority must be asserted, unless you want to Bermuda become a little Somalia … and to put the final nails in the coffin of our wobbly economy. Each act of violence will beget the next. The hammer’s gotta come.
And where’s Dr. Brown on all this? Already gone on vacation? Or standing back, so he can bitch about not having operational control as the body count grows? Remember: this is happening on your watch, it’s your legacy. No amount of PR washes out blood on the streets. Your party has grassroots, your party has street cred. It’s time to spend that.
