The motion in the House of Assembly failed by 22-11 (two UBP MPs failing to vote).
The sole consequence for Dr. Brown is that Dale Butler resigned from Cabinet as a statement of protest. Shame on you lost souls that placed party before country, self-interest before your community.
Unless they resolve this internally, the PLP will be forever known by its support for Dr. Brown’s misrule and the damage it wrought on Bermuda. Unless the UBP can regain dynamism, I think they are finished. Stick a fork in it.
This is a catastrophe for Bermuda, and I have lost all faith in our political system. I think we are governed by crooks and fools for their own benefit.
We have retained a leader who during the debates yesterday free admitted that he violated the law and the Constitution, and kept his own Government in the dark as to his actions and motives. Half the debate was about race and independence, rather than the simple task of reprimanding a leader who apparently will not comply with the law, nor represent the people.
Dr. Brown characterised his actions as “saying ‘yes we can’ instead of ‘please sir, may I’?'” This might be understood as “screw you, I’ll do what I want.”
By this act, Ewart Brown is no longer beholden to the law or the Constitution … or even his own political colleagues. He is quoted as saying: “I was performing an act of Grace that might not have been approved by the Queen, but I can assure you it was ordained by a higher power.”
The Rule of Law is dead in Bermuda and Dr. Brown is now King.
I am ashamed for Bermuda. The consequences for this will be terrible for our community.
