Motion Being Debated

June 19th, 2009 · No Comments · Bermuda Politics

They have started debating the motion of no confidence in Dr. Brown.

The Speaker tried to change the motion to: “That this house has no confidence in the Government and deplores the actions of the Premier in relation to the Uighurs matter” or something like that.

It finally ended up as “That this honourable house has no confidence in the Government led by the Premier” after the UBP resisted.

Dr. Brown has corrected his earlier statements regarding the Uighur risk assessment, saying that he erred rather than knowingly mislead in his statement to the House and subsequent radio broadcasts. Sayeth he “To err is human, to forgive divine.”

Kim Swan rattled off a long recital of Dr. Brown’s “constant circus” activities.

Terry Lister responded with a long list of perky things the PLP has done. Next up is Alex Scott who was honest saying that we can’t pretend the events of the past week are normal and don’t raise concern. In a subtle way, he’s even more damaging to Dr. Brown than the Opposition. He sounds like he’s seeking a reprimand, without actually saying it, or indicating which way he’ll vote. You get the feeling that the backbenchers are all still weighing what to do.

Please give me some novocaine!

Don’t know if this true, but someone emailed me that the Uighurs are sitting in the Gallery! If so, Ewart’s stage management is meticulous.  He’s also bringing in Rev. Al Sharpton on Monday.  And that always calms the situation.
