American media outlets are reporting that President Obama will soon announce a new Consul General for Bermuda.
Florida State Senator Tony Hill would be the first African American US Consul General in Bermuda. He is also a rarity in that he is a very experienced politician rather than a business person being rewarded for fundraising efforts on behalf of the President’s election campaign.
A dedicated Democrat and military veteran, he has been active in support of union issues, affirmative action, voter registration, and health issues. If appointed State Sen. Hill will need to resign his elected position (he is otherwise scheduled to leave office in 2012 because of term limits).
If the buzz is true, I’d like to extend an early welcome to State Senator Hill.
