Blustery Opinions From Bermuda

Well, we are all waiting for Government’s response regarding the long list of short cuts and contracting oddities that were detailed in the Royal Gazette last week. The silence is damning.

There’s just a little cattiness on the PLP website (posted without any context or explanation):

“It’s been several days since Pat Gordon-Pamplin insulted a majority of Bermuda’s voters and she has yet to apologise for her pretentious and inappropriate remarks.”

So what did Ms. Pamplin-Gordon say that got them so worked up?  It took some digging around, but it has to be this:

“As long as the taxpayer is happy to allow this level of mediocrity, poor oversight, shoddy workmanship all with no accountability and plagued with a plethora of excuses, then the end product will be in keeping with lowered expectations.”

I don’t think an apology will be forthcoming.   As the facts that leak out about this mishandled project, more and more people in our community agree with Ms. Gordon-Pamplin.  Government keeps insisting that everything is OK, but it is clear to many that things are not.

There’s also an interesting trend in the language.  White critics of the PLP are seen off with the usual Plantation evasions.  That’s harder to do with black critics like Pat Gordon-Pamplin and Bob Richards, who are either sneered at as “mindless marionettes” or labelled “arrogant” and “pretentious”.

More “defining your opponent” … anything to avoid addressing the facts.
