So, now that Wayne and Jamahl have crossed over, does it mean that Government is now the ULP?
I assume that captures Mr. Furbert’s logic: it’s too hard to be the Opposition, and maybe he can be a more effective moderating voice from the inside of the PLP. He says:
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something build a new model which makes the existing model obsolete”
I wish him well, but I believe his equation that we need the PLP to be a success for Bermuda to be a success is too simplistic. Many argue – with justification – that many of the PLP’s actions in recent years are not in the long term interest of Bermuda and Bermudians. If he follows the PLP whip (which he has pretty much done since he declared himself Independent) in order to prove his new allegiance, it is not clear at all that he’s helping build a new model.
Many in the community have meekly swallowed the PLP dogma of “predestined right to rule”. That does no favours to Bermuda, as it assures that every failure in PLP governance will be mournfully forgiven. It removes pressure for accountability. Just like the UBP, the PLP needs a dire shakeup and I am not sure that Mr. Furbert can contribute to that.
It is interesting to note that of the hundreds of posts I have made to this site, this one seems to be attracting particular attention. Bermuda: rust never sleeps.
