When it was elected, the PLP promised to promote transparency in Government. However, since Government published its briefing on Public Access to Information in 2005, little has been heard on the subject.
By comparison, our erstwhile competitors the Cayman Islands proposed to enact their own Freedom of Information law with a first draft law in 2005. They sought feedback from the public as well as from experts including the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative. An amended law was enacted this September. Cayman has hired an experienced international FOIA administrator to run the implementation, with the Act being fully operational in a year.
Actions speak louder than words.
